Beer hair masks
Beer is a malt-based intoxicating drink with a small percentage of alcohol. Treatment of hair with beer is a long tradition. It is impossible to say exactly when the ancestors guessed to use the intoxicating drink for other than its intended purpose, but this experiment was undoubtedly successful. Masks with beer have a unique restorative effect, but they are also used for other purposes.
What are the benefits of beer for hair?
The composition of beer contains many components that determine its healing properties, namely:
- Vitamins B1, B2, B6 and B12 are the building blocks for the structure of the keratin structure of the hair. Their lack in the body directly affects the condition of the curls, which become dull and lifeless;
- Nicotinic acid (niacin) – stimulates the follicles, bringing them out of the resting phase and activating the growth phase;
- Trace elements (copper, zinc, iron) – restore strands, reducing their fragility and thinning, directly affect the health of the scalp;
- Rye malt – improves the structure of the scalp, strengthens the hair, gives it shine and elasticity.
Ways to use beer for hair
When applying beer, an immediate chemical reaction begins, the conditions for which directly depend on the condition of the curls (wet, dry, dirty or clean, dyed or natural, etc.), as well as additional factors (mask composition temperature, external temperature and air humidity, mask components At the same time, the methods of using beer masks, depending on the purpose of application and the product itself, vary.
Masks with beer have the following effects on hair:
- Strengthening the structure of curls;
- Temporary straightening of frizzy and curly curls with beer;
- Lightening strands with beer;
- Darkening curls (dark beer);
- Giving additional volume;
- Reducing the fat content and the rate of pollution of the hair due to the normalization of the sebaceous glands;
- Fight against hair loss by strengthening hair follicles;
- Intensive moisturizing;
- Growth activation.
Usually, any course of treatment with beer masks lasts 1 – 1.5 months with a frequency of the procedure 1 – 2 times a week.
What beer to choose?
In order for the mask to be beneficial and not cause any unexpected side effects or uncomfortable consequences in the form of a “crow’s nest” on the head, choose the right beer to apply to the hair. A canned drink or beer with flavors is not an option: such compositions are swept aside immediately.
For the manufacture of therapeutic masks, it is best to take natural beer from a wort with a high degree of fermentation.
An unfiltered hoppy brew is also fine, but strain the beer before drinking to remove any sediment that has formed at the bottom of the product.
Blondes should be aware that dark beers can give their locks an unwanted hue. After applying and rinsing off the beer mask, it often remains characteristic yeasty odor, so rinse your head very carefully. To facilitate the procedure, after beer, use water acidified with vinegar or citrus juice as a rinse.
Recipes for beer masks
A beer-based mono- or multi-component mask is an effective way to get the curls of your dreams without expensive salon procedures. To use a drink from hops correctly means to follow the instructions below:
- 100 – 150 milliliters of beer are heated in a water bath to the temperature of the human body (36 degrees Celsius);
- The liquid in the mask with other products lasts from half an hour to 1.5 hours. There are so-called express masks, aged for 15-20 minutes (see below);
- If you use beer as an independent component, apply it to the curls with a spray bottle – this greatly simplifies the task of distributing the product;
- It is better to wash off the composition with beer from the hair with herbal decoctions or acidified water.
If you have a natural greasy hairbeer mask, rinse or other beer-based product should be prepared in a different way, namely:
- Release carbon dioxide from the alcoholic drink and warm it up a little;
- The drink is mixed with herbal infusion on burdock and nettle and applied to the entire length of the strands;
- Hair washed with beer is dried with a towel, a hair dryer is not used.
There are dozens if not hundreds of recipes for beer masks. To decide for yourself with a “favorite”, we recommend trying several types of such tools:
- For fast hair restoration – a glass of hot intoxicating drink is mixed with a decoction of hop cones, burdock root and calamus in a ratio of 1: 1. Apply the mask to the hair with a brush or swab, it is washed off after an hour;
- To get rid of dandruff – nettle infusion (200 ml) and half a glass of beer are mixed and applied to wet hair for 40 minutes. The mask is kept under a towel for warmth and washed off without shampoo;
- To add volume – in a glass of beer, add 1-2 tablespoons of shea or jojoba butter and keep it on your hair after washing for 5-7 minutes, and then rinse it again.
These are not all known recipes for beer masks. We suggest that you familiarize yourself with other folk remedies.
For lightening hair
To make light brown or blonde hair a little lighter, no complex beer-based formulations are needed. In fact, the beer itself perfectly brightens the hair without additional impurities, but for a greater and faster effect, add the juice of one lemon to the required volume of the product (750 – 1000 ml) of beer.
The mask is applied to clean and dried hair.
Half an hour is enough for the chemical reaction on the hair to take effect. Wash off with warm water without shampoo. After 5 – 7 procedures, you will notice how noticeably lighter the curls have become. For brown-haired women and brunettes, such a mask with beer will not bring a significant result, but it will help straighten out the unwanted shade obtained during the previous staining.
To strengthen and grow
One of the most popular homemade beer masks is a strengthening composition that promotes rapid hair growth. All that is needed to prepare the remedy is the juice of one onion and 500 ml of intoxicating drink.
The mask with beer and onions has a pungent odor and can slightly burn the scalp, so it is kept for no longer than 15 to 20 minutes.
Rinse off with warm water or herbal infusion of chamomile or linden. If you can’t wash the smell of onion juice from your hair, add 5 to 10 drops of any aromatic oil to the rinse water.
From falling out
If with every combing you find whole shreds of hair on the comb, you should think about what is the state of your health. Hair loss can be a symptom of a lack of essential trace elements and vitamins in the body (niacin, riboflavin,…
