When it comes to aging, the neck area is critical. We can see many women with beautiful, flawless faces, but their skin around the neck area looks older. One of the first signs of aging is wrinkles on the neck and sagging skin. To avoid these disasters, you must properly protect your skin from wrinkles and other imperfections.
The best way to slow down the aging process is to take the necessary preventive measures to maintain and increase the elasticity of the neck skin. Don’t forget that the neck area is just as sensitive as your face area, so you need to take proper care of it.
Causes of neck wrinkles
Environmental pollution, smoke and cigarettes.
We all know that there is a lot of pollution right now. Pollution and smoke damage the skin. In your early years, your skin will neutralize these free radicals. But as you get older, the process slows down and more damage appears to the skin. Smoking cigarettes again is also very dangerous for the skin and shows signs of aging very easily.
Sun exposure is one of the most dangerous causes for any skin related problems. The sun has so many good qualities that you may want to enjoy them. It really nourishes your skin with vitamin D and helps in healthy bone growth. But when you go out, it is very important to protect your skin with a good sunscreen, as this is the first cause of pre-ripened skin. The sun’s rays deplete your skin’s elasticity and the skin won’t return to its original shape, leading to wrinkles, laugh lines, and age spots.

The direction of massage for the skin of the neck is very important to remember because a good massage in the wrong direction or with the wrong movement along the neck can damage the skin. The skin of the neck is very thin and delicate. It is more delicate than the skin of your face. The correct direction to massage the skin of the neck is to move both of your palms from the bottom to the top area with vertical movements. Never massage your neck in circular motions or from top to bottom.
Oils help the skin of the neck to rejuvenate. But not just any oils. You have to be careful when it comes to choosing the right kind of oil. Choose those oils that are not extremely heavy and are in their purest form.
Do not over-massage the neck. Neck massage should last a maximum of 10-15 minutes with a possible break of one to two minutes in between.
Masks also work wonders for the skin of the neck, as well as for the skin of the face. Use fruit masks on your neck for best results. Fruits such as apple, ripe banana, avocado and plums can do wonders for neck skin.
Here are some ingredients that you can easily mix at home and use –
- 1 mashed ripe banana (preferably ripe but not stale) and olive oil can be used as a nice mask for your neck. Apply it on your neck when you apply other face masks. Wait 15 minutes and rinse with plain water. Fine lines on the neck will disappear, giving you glowing skin. You can use it twice a week.
- A pleasant mask of egg white and honey can be applied to the neck with a brush for 10-12 minutes and washed off with warm water. This will give you lighter skin around your neck and remove any fine lines.
- The pumpkin puree mask can also be applied to the neck for 20 minutes, 3-4 times a week. Pumpkin is a great rejuvenating vegetable. You should include this in your regular diet in one form or another after 30 years of age.
A very important point to remember when using masks on the skin of the neck is to never allow any mask other than fruit masks to dry out on the skin of the neck. Clay masks, gram flour (besan), whole wheat flour (Atta), or any other type of mud mask should never be left to tighten the skin of the neck.
If you can get a spa treatment for your neck, then there’s nothing better than doing it once in a while. Make sure your body position during the massage is correct. If you are taking a massage for the purpose of relaxation or getting rid of the pain of spondylosis, then the sitting position can be quite good. But if you are taking a spa polish or neck smoothing treatment, then the best position would be to lie on your back during the treatment.
Peeling of the skin of the neck is also important. Use only mild exfoliators. Use upward strokes for exfoliation only and do not extend the time for more than five minutes.
Use a scrub made from ground almonds and milk and apply on your neck. Start at the shoulders and move to the top, do this for five minutes. Rinse off when you bathe. Do this two to four times a week. This is one of the best neck cleansing tips that will provide great results.
Apply facial cleanser to your neck while taking a bath. Avoid harsh soaps on the skin of the neck. Shower gels that are balanced will do.
Apply the toner to your neck with a cotton swab when you use the toner on your face. Apply sunscreen to your neck in the same upward motions as you normally would. Keep a special vitamin E enriched neck moisturizer. Apply the cream or lotion in the same way with upward strokes with the palm of your hand.
A good way to visibly reduce pores is to rub your neck and face with ice cubes. But be careful not to catch a cold. Ice cubes rubbed into your neck for 15 minutes, preferably every day, can help you shrink any pores on your neck.
Use sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher on your neck and face as well.
Don’t forget to remove makeup from your neck when removing your face makeup. The skin of the neck is no different from the skin of the face. It also contains pores. Makeup blocks the pores and prevents the neck skin from breathing properly. The result is dull and flabby skin. Next time, remove make-up from the skin of the neck too, with a cotton ball dipped in make-up remover with only upward strokes.
